SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

Appearance: white solid. Danger! Causes respiratory tract burns. Corrosive. Hygroscopic. Causes eye and skin burns. May cause severe digestive tract irritation with possible burns.

Target Organs: Skeletal structures.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS

Eye: Causes eye burns.

Skin: Causes skin burns.

Ingestion: Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. May cause severe gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea, vomiting and possible burns. Ingestion of large amounts of potassium ion may cause lowered blood pressure, coma, and death. Ingestion of large amounts of fluoride may include salivation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, labored breathing.

Inhalation: Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract. Inhalation may be fatal as a result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx and bronchi, chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. Prolonged exposure to dusts, vapors, or mists may result in the perforation of the nasal septum.

Chronic: Chronic inhalation and ingestion may cause chronic fluoride poisoning (fluorosis) characterized by weight loss, weakness, anemia, brittle bones, and stiff joints.

SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES

Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid immediately. Do NOT allow victim to rub or keep eyes closed.

Skin: Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.

Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.

Inhalation: Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

Notes to Physician: Treat symptomatically and
