Molecular formula : KBF4
Molecular weight : 125.91
Property : White powder or gelatinous crystal without hygroscopicity, bitter. Hexad crystal could be got from its aqueous solution. Relative density 2.50; melting point 530°C; slightly soluble in water and hot ethanol; insoluble in cold ethanol. It will decompose when melting. It can be decomposed to boron trifluoride by strong acids like sufuric acid. It will product fluorides and borates; toxic!
Use : Used as the fluxing agent for thermal welding and copper welding; the raw material for producing boron alloy; as the filling agent for heavy abrasion wheel with resin as the abradant adhesive; for purifying light metal dregs when welding and melting silver and gold; as the raw material for making boron trifluoride and other villiaumites; also applied to electrochemical process and reagent
